OEE

This guide is designed to assist you in utilizing the OEE reports to maximize your production efficiency.

What is OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)?

OEE is a key performance indicator used in manufacturing to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of production processes. It provides a comprehensive view of how well a manufacturing operation is performing relative to its full potential during the periods when it is scheduled to run. OEE is expressed as a percentage, with 100% representing perfect production, meaning manufacturing only good parts, as fast as possible, with no downtime.

How is OEE Calculated?

OEE is calculated by multiplying three key factors: Availability, Performance, and Quality. Each of these factors addresses a different aspect of the manufacturing process:

  1. Availability: This measures the percentage of scheduled time that the equipment is available for production. It is calculated as:

    Availability = Run Time / Planned Production Time

    where Run Time is the actual time the equipment is running and Planned Production Time is the total time the equipment is scheduled for production.

  2. Performance: This measures the speed at which the equipment operates as a percentage of its designed speed. It is calculated as:

    Performance = ( Ideal Cycle Time × Total Count ) / Run Time

    where Ideal Cycle Time is the fastest cycle time that the equipment can achieve, and Total Count is the number of units produced.

  3. Quality: This measures the percentage of good parts produced out of the total parts produced. It is calculated as:

    Quality = Good Count / Total Count

    where Good Count is the number of units that meet quality standards.

The overall OEE score is then calculated by multiplying these three factors:

OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality

By monitoring and improving OEE, manufacturers can identify and eliminate inefficiencies, leading to higher productivity and better utilization of their equipment.
